Reaction Mechanism and Performance Leap: A Qualitative Change from Thermoplastic to Thermosetting

 

  • Moisture Crosslinking Reaction: Isocyanate groups (-NCO) react with moisture (H₂O) in the air or hydroxyl groups on the surface of the board to form a polyurea crosslinking network. After curing, it no longer melts upon heating.
  • Superior Temperature Resistance: After curing, the softening point is 120-150℃, and it can withstand 180℃ for short periods; EVA only softens and delaminates near heat sources at 80-100℃.
  • Qualitative Change in Water Resistance: After crosslinking, the molecular structure is hydrophobic, and it does not emulsify or delaminate after long-term immersion (72 hours). EVA absorbs water and turns white, causing its adhesion to drop to zero.
  • Adhesive strength continuously increases: Initial peel strength is approximately 40-60 N/25 mm, reaching 80-120 N/25 mm after complete curing; strength increases over time rather than decreases.
  • Resistant to chemical corrosion: Resistant to alcohol, detergents, weak acids and alkalis, grease, sweat, etc., suitable for kitchen, laboratory, and medical furniture.
  • Excellent toughness: Retains a certain degree of elasticity after curing; the adhesive layer is less prone to cracking when the board expands and contracts due to temperature changes, superior to rigid thermosetting adhesives.
