Laser edge banding is an advanced edge-finishing process used in the production of panel furniture. Pioneered and patented by the German HOMAG Group, this technology utilizes a high-energy laser to instantly melt a special polymer functional layer (the laser-active adhesive layer) on the back of the edge band, which is then immediately pressed onto the workpiece by a pressure roller.
The molten polymer layer forms a robust "mechanical interlock" or molecular-level fusion with the panel's edge surface, replacing traditional hot-melt adhesives (such as EVA or PUR) to achieve a seamless finish with no visible glue line.
